Hypothyroidism Diet: Increase Thyroid Function

Other recommended foods:

  • Antioxidants;
  • Fibers: up the intake by eating fresh vegetables, beans, berries and pulses. But not too much, as it can impair the ability to absorb thyroid medication. It’s best to wait a few hours after taking thyroid medicine before eating high-fiber foods;
  • Magnesium;
  • Lean protein sources;
  • Omega-3;
  • Organic fruits and vegetables: strawberries (which affect the endocrine glands), citrus fruits rich in vitamin C, kiwis, green vegetables, green beans (rich in iodine) and carrots;
  • Drink plenty of fluids (at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day). As constipation is a common symptom of hypothyroidism, it is important to maintain proper hydration;
  • Gentle cooking (especially steaming) to preserve nutrients.
