The short-term effects of the diet are well known. However, long-term health effects are little known due to limited studies.
Such drastic body restructuring, rewiring the energy source is a serious change. The body may adapt in different ways. Reducing carbohydrates can lead to a state of hypoglycemia and occasional mood swings. The restriction of vegetables and fruits worsens the intestinal microflora and causes disturbances in the digestive tract. A large amount of fat is fraught with bouts of pancreatitis and cholecystitis.
Low-carbohydrate diets are dangerous for people with hidden metabolic disorders: there is a risk of transition to ketoacidosis – severe metabolic acidosis, which may be fatal.
