11. Pesticide-Laden Produce: A Hidden Liver Threat
Pesticide residues on fruits and vegetables can pose a risk to liver health. The liver is responsible for detoxifying these harmful chemicals, but excessive exposure can strain the liver and contribute to inflammation and damage over time.
To protect your liver, consider choosing organic produce whenever possible, particularly for fruits and vegetables known to have higher pesticide residues. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) publishes an annual list of the “Dirty Dozen” – the top 12 produce items with the highest pesticide residues.
Washing and peeling fruits and vegetables can also help reduce pesticide exposure. However, it’s important to remember that the benefits of consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables far outweigh the potential risks associated with pesticide residues. (11)
