Those who regularly use public swimming pools, gyms, or spas are at a greater risk of encountering HPV. These damp and communal environments can harbor the virus, elevating the transmission risk for frequent users. People with skin conditions, such as eczema, which can lead to broken or irritated skin, are at a higher risk. The compromised skin can serve as an easy entry point for the virus.
Individuals whose occupations require them to have their hands wet for extended periods, like dishwashers or aquatic instructors, can be more susceptible. Constantly damp conditions around the nails can create a conducive environment for HPV. (7)
