Dizziness: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments

Vertebrobasilar insufficiency

This is a condition in which fatty substances in the bloodstream form plaques and start to narrow or block blood vessels that lead to the brain from the heart. Poor blood circulation in the back of the brain results in dizziness.

Stroke

Insufficient blood flow may eventually lead to a stroke, if the blood supply to a part of the brain is completely cut off. Strokes are a medical emergency and urgent treatment is essential. Immediately call 999, if in addition to dizziness you or any person next to you is experiencing the following symptoms: dropping of the face on one side, weakness or numbness in one arm, and slurred speech.
