Low Blood Sugar – Causes, Signs and Symptoms

Low blood sugar in non-diabetic patients.

There are two types of non-diabetic hypoglycemia:

  • Reactive hypoglycemia, which happens a few hours after the meal. It happens if your pancreas produces too much insulin, or in prediabetes;
  • Fasting hypoglycemia, which might develop in the following conditions:
    • Taking medicine, such as aspirin and sulfa drugs;
    • Excessive alcohol intake;
    • Diseases of the liver, kidney and pancreas;
    • Low levels of hormones;
    • Certain tumors. [5]
