Symptom 3. Rapid or Irregular Heartbeat
A rapid or irregular heartbeat, known as palpitations, is another symptom of severe anemia in women. When the body lacks sufficient oxygen due to a reduced number of red blood cells, the heart works harder to pump blood throughout the body to compensate for the oxygen deficiency.
This increased workload can lead to an elevated heart rate, which may be perceived as a rapid or irregular heartbeat. Women with severe anemia may experience palpitations during physical activities or even at rest.
Persistent palpitations can put additional strain on the heart and, in some cases, lead to more severe cardiac complications such as arrhythmias or heart failure.
