Frequent Symptoms.
The most frequent symptoms associated with throat cancer are:
- A persistent sore throat: the most common warning sign of throat cancer.
- Hoarseness or voice changes: for laryngeal cancers that form on the vocal cords, hoarseness or a change in the voice can be found at a very early stage. It is recommended to see a doctor if the voice changes don’t improve within 2 weeks. For other types of cancer, this symptom might occur only at a later stage when cancer has spread to the vocal cords. [4]
- Pain or difficulty swallowing, or a burning sensation when chewing or swallowing.
- Swollen neck lymph nodes: if there is a lump that is growing and isn’t going away, seek medical attention without hesitation.
- Weight loss: it is present with any form of cancer. In throat cancer, though, it can be significant, because it is difficult to eat due to painful swallowing. [3]
