Keep an eye on your minerals.
If you are hypertensive, eat more foods rich in potassium. Potassium allows you to reduce the negative impact of sodium. Displacing sodium from your body cells, potassium decreases the amount of water in the body and allows blood pressure to drop. Remember that the best source of potassium is natural foods, including many fruits (bananas, oranges, tangerines), dried fruits (raisins, dried apricots), vegetables (especially potatoes and beans), seaweed, squid, fish (cod, hake), oatmeal, milk, yogurt.
Another important mineral is magnesium, it helps to dilate blood vessels and strengthen their walls. The lack of magnesium pulls potassium out of the cells and increases the content of sodium inside of them, which leads to blood pressure increase. Legumes – beans, peas, lentils – are champions in magnesium content. In addition, they have a lot of fiber, which makes you feel full for longer.
