When Is It Required?
There are a number of specific cardiac pathologies that are discovered or monitored best with the help of cardiac catheterization. They may include:
- Coronary artery disease (CAD);
- Congenital heart defects;
- Heart valve disease;
- Heart transplant;
- Heart muscle diseases (cardiomyopathies);
- Narrowing of the coronary vessels;
- Angina pectoris;
- Narrowing or leakage of a heart valve;
- Abnormal blood flow in the heart, called an intracardiac shunt;
- Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH);
- Myocardial infarction;
- Heart abnormality;
- Heart failure;
- To help plan a surgical procedure.
