Home Treatments for Food Poisoning

What to eat?

As soon as it seems possible to swallow something solid again, it is advisable to do so, as the digestive system needs to recover to heal more quickly. Therefore, you should plan to eat light amounts of food, which you increase gradually.

When food poisoning occurs, a diet adjustment is required until recovery. In the first few hours and days, the digestive system must be given some rest, so it is advised to focus on liquids first. Fruits, vegetables and dairy should be avoided at first.

To help the healing process, proteins should be consumed. It is therefore advisable to carefully re-introduce lean meat and fish (turkey, skinless chicken, hake…). It is also advisable to consume plain starchy foods (white rice, pasta, cooked potatoes). These foods are easy to digest and do not risk damaging the already fragile intestinal flora. They help to bind the stool and help prevent diarrhea and other stomach problems. Bananas can also be eaten after food poisoning: rich in potassium, magnesium and prebiotics, they can help balance the intestinal flora. It is ideal for maintaining good intestinal bacteria and fighting infection.

You can begin re-introducing familiar products into your diet a few days after the symptoms have calmed down.
